“1st World Youth Meeting for a Sustainable Future”, Bari, 19-21 January 2010. Deadline: 4 December 2009 (no extension)

The “1st World Youth Meeting for a Sustainable Future” in Bari seeks to reiterate the importance of the contribution of youth in the efforts to address the challenges of sustainability in all its facets: economic, social and environmental!
The Meeting is organized by the Italian government and the Regione Puglia, in the context of the initiative “Ni, mondlokaj civitanoj- We, Global Local citizens” (NMC) which seeks to promote sustainable development and youth participation in decision-making at both local and global level. It will bring together 500 youth delegates from 90 countries and more than a 1000 participants who are actively involved in community and local action, implementing innovative ideas and promoting change. The Meeting will include a series of workshops addressing five thematic clusters: Education; Citizenship/civic engagement; Environment/Climate change; Human Safety and Development; Labor, entrepreneurship and economy. UNESCO, along with other UN agencies and IGOs (among others), contributed in the conception of the meeting and will be participating actively in it by associating its youth networks (Youth Forums’ delegates, youth organizations, UNESCO youth clubs and centers), channeling the results of the 6th UNESCO Youth Forum to the work of the Meeting, moderating thematic workshops, including a session on the Global Strategy on Youth.
In this context, UNESCO will be recommending a minimum of 100 youth delegates to the selection committee (25 youth per region). The youth delegates should:
- Be between 18 and 30 years old
- Be agents of change within their societies, primarily at the community level, leading innovative approaches to stimulate political, social and cultural advances related to the thematic clusters addressed by the Meeting .
- Be able to spread learning and outcomes within their communities and networks in order to multiply the conference impact.
- Have proficiency in at least one of the following languages: English, French, Spanish or Italian.
