Rework the World: Preparations for 5th Global Youth Employment Summit PDF Print E-mail
This is the first newsletter as part of the global initiative Rework the World, run in partnership between the Tällberg Foundation and YES Inc. It builds towards the 5th Global YES Summit 2-5 June 2010, in Leksand, Sweden, where we will gather 2000 people around concrete efforts to Rework the World.
We recently met at Tällberg Forum 09. Where we began Tällberg conversations and shared how the economy is in crisis, how the planetary systems are failing and how unemployment is on a steep rise.

The world does not work. So let's get on with it.

Rework-
Bringing efforts together to do what it takes

Rework the World is a global initiative that seeks to mobilise young people around promising sustainable ventures and help take the emerging green economy to the next level. It is a response to the confluence of the ecological and economic crises and to the increasing fragmentation in our societies. With mounting pressures - unemployment, environmental degradation and social stress - our societies risk falling apart at a time when we must be pulling together. This we cannot allow.

We encourage you to read more about the project. http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102620366928&s=5359&e=001Uwrz9aJ2qzcEKpZHiqthTfvOm7dGECslnX34wIPeK5Dk8wAf8Fwv_5Vyr8x8J0qP_pdrczX806BikV__3LjLyaweIpQ1ZFQKqBbVgf10HK__ak3hN5dkx-ulK8UgtZQVH1-EWDHg8MIdgtY0bgkbY5g0MAVRkfCwskJVyEsuaRo=

In the works
June 2-5, 2010, Sweden Through a methodology grounded in systems thinking and based on strategic brokering of relationships, the project seeks to significantly scale the impact of existing efforts by creating clusters of supporting actors and linking these to local youth networks. The aim is to generate large scale green employment opportunities for youth, and to realise synergies in existing efforts of business, civil society, government, and international bodies.

Concrete results are already emerging out of Rework-meetings in East Africa and in the run up to meetings in India and Latin America. Entrepreneurs in areas such as  low-income housing, solar energy lighting for rural areas, sustainable charcoal and rural livelihoods are as a result of the project starting to work with youth leaders and networks, preparing plans to support green youth opportunities.

At the Tällberg Forum
The Tällberg Forum 2009 will take place on 24-28 June 2009, under the theme "How on earth can we live together, within the planetary boundaries?".

Over 400 leaders from business and politics, thinkers, scientists, artists and entrepreneurs will gather for four days to address global issues of urgency and common interest, through conversation, reflection and

working sessions.

There are several sessions and activities of the Rework the World initiative as part of the main forum programme. The Rework sessions offer an opportunity to engage, hands-on with concrete actions and efforts going forward.
