NETHERLAND ANTILLES: Bria Sorton St. Maarten’s 40th Teen Carnival Queen. Bria Sorton was crowned St. Maarten’s Teen Carnival Queen 2009 with a total of 226 points. She also took home the sashes for Best Costume (97 points), Best Interview (44 points), Miss Photogenic and Miss Popularity which she shared with second runner-up Alexandrine Peterson. Full article

US VIRGIN ISLANDS: Education Accepting Applications for 21st Century Grants for Fiscal Year 2009. Public and private organizations across the territory may again participate in the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21stCCLC) Competition for grants to establish community learning centers across the territory. The program is authorized under Title IV, Part B of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act and allocations for each state are based upon the state's student enrollment. The deadline to submit complete applications is Tuesday, June 30. No extensions will be granted, according to a press release from the V.I. Department of Education. Full article
