DOMINICA: Convent High wins teen pageant. Kelcia Righton of the Convent High School outdid six other contestants and walked away with seven out of eight awards to win Miss Teen Dominica 2009. High Court Judge Davidson Baptiste has stated that the court is not happy with the crusade of violence taking place in the community and has to send a clear message to those thinking of committing such crimes. DOMINICA: NYC stimulates literacy amongst youth. The National Youth Council is coordinating Keira's Book Club as a programme to encourage literacy among students and reading as an extra-curricular activity by supporting or initiation book clubs and reading programs at various primary schools around Dominica. DOMINICA: Mahaut youth fined $1000 for marijauna. Brian George, 21, of Mahaut was fined $1,000 for possession of cannabis and cultivation of cannabis before he was warned by Senior Magistrate Ossie Lewis not to return for drug offenses. Full article

Health Commissioner Vivian Ebbesen-Fludd resigned at the governor's request on Tuesday, just days after The Daily News published reports on the Health Department's failure to keep HIV-fighting drugs in stock, forcing patients on the AIDS Drug Assistance Program to go without the life-sustaining medications.
