A 16 year old boy from Tortola re-appeared in the Youth Court on Tuesday 12th August 2008 charged with theft, showing disrespect to the Magistrate before whom a judicial proceeding was being held, disorderly conduct on court premises and causing a disturbance in the course of a judicial proceeding. BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS: Junior scientist programme explores salt ponds. The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS) and the Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) teamed up to educate our youth on the importance of the Territory's salt ponds. Full article

DOMINICA: Fitness blamed for Dominica’s failed Youth Cup campaign. National Under-17 coach Jerome Bardouille has pointed to a lack of physical strength and fitness as the two main reasons for his team’s early exit from the Caribbean Football Union’s Youth Cup in Trinidad & Tobago. Full article

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Dominican university students take part in Cyberjournalist Olympics. Thirty university students will participate for nearly three weeks in the "II Olympics for Junior Cyberjournalists in Dominican Republic," to be be inaugurated 7:00 p.m.Tuesday and open to the public. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: FLACSO, UASD University to establish social sciences program.  The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences( FLACSO) and the State University of Santo Domingo UASD signed an agreement to cooperate in developing academic activities in social sciences and courses for graduate programs. JAMAICA:  Schools to go hi-tech. THE Ministry of Education is currently examining ways to transmit lessons to schools across the island via cable television, the Internet and even telephones as part of the e-learning Jamaica (e-Ljam) project, Education Minister Andrew Holness announced Tuesday. TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: AIDS advocate welcomes human rights legislation. We have all heard stories about people experiencing discrimination due to HIV/AIDS. They are fired, thrown out from homes, based on real or perceived HIV status. Children are also ostracised. These victims have to suffer in silence in the absence of legislation to protect basic rights which most citizens take for granted. Full article

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Mosaic of music from UNESCO youth. Rarely do I ever choose the Sunday matinee of any performance. The decision to attend “A Mosaic of Genres — Rhapsody: Parte Deux” last Sunday at 6 pm turned out to be an exceptionally good one. US VIRGIN ISLANDS: Innovative Telephone shows support for youth group with $75,000 donation. ST. CROIX - Innovative Telephone presented a $75,000 check to the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands on Monday. The funds will be used to finance programs at the club's locations in Christiansted and Frederiksted on St. Croix, and Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas. Full article
