The workshop modules includes organizing youth work groups and guiding them to prepare the training and role playing games based on land tenure issues on Old Providence, elaborating a list of outsiders owners of properties on both islands, environment and tradition, etc.
Who's involved: Project leader: June Marie-Mow Main partner: Star Teen Other organisations: - The Rebels - Providence Foundation - ECOASTUR - FINDEPAC Timeframe: June 2006 - June 2007 Theme: My Island Home Objectives: - Create a role playing game to create awareness among native islanders of non-monetary value of their island and community, of My Island Home. Activities: - Strengthen and support the youth group Star Teen and The Rebels to establish a legal organization, and provide them with training in project management and leadership through the implementation of this project; - Together with other organizations, carry out a basic computer and internet training program for computer-illiterate youth of Star Teen and The Rebels and their parents; - Hold a training program and workshop to provide island youth with the background information on land tenure and economic development on islands as well as on the methodology to develop the role playing activity, My Island Home; - Facilitate the design and creation of the role playing activity, My Island Home, by the youth and in their testing of the prototype with small business owners and farmers; - Invite local and regional authorities to support the youth in their creation and testing of the role playing activity, My Island Home; - Involve the media in the creation, design and testing of the role playing activity, My Island Home, and publicise the project activity through press, radio and TV; - Evaluate the impact of the activity by assisting the youth to carry out a questionnaire survey of at least 50 residents before the project starts and at the end of the role playing activity with selected land owners and public agencies Progress Reports: 26 March 2007 The youth are currently concluding the surveys, writing the reports, preparing the essays and developing the game. They decided the following are the questions they need to think about and answer to design the role playing game: - Goal or aim of the game. - Define the learning outcomes (what will people have learned once they finish playing the game?) - Name of the game - Time required to play the game (cannot be longer than 1 hour) - Describe the tasks and if you will receive scores - Number of Players. Do they play individually or paired - Name and composition of each family - How do you decide which players play which family role - How does the game start and how does it come to an end - How many years do you play? >> More details in the progress report [pdf. 1.08Mb] - June Marie-Mow 28 February 2007 Things have been moving slower than expected, because the young people need a lot of help. We have been doing much more to prepare workshops to have the young people highly involved. The idea is that they are working on the workshop modules and we have been having many workshops and meetings to work with them to do so. But we are coming along well.
