The J8 Summit is the parallel youth event to the G8 Summit. Directly before the G8 Summit, winning teams from the J8 Competition meet together in the G8 presidency country. Here they will discuss and debate the items on the G8 agenda as well as issues particularly relevant to young people.
Have the opportunity to tell powerful world leaders what you think about the future of our planet Over the course of several days the young people take part in workshops, round table discussions and exercises to help them think through each of the issues on the agenda. There are also lots of opportunities to find about the country hosting the G8 and about each other's countries. "...if we really want to make a difference we all need to come together and make things actually work..." At the end of their discussions, the J8 delegates write a joint communiqué outlining what they think should be done about the global issues on the agenda. This communiqué will then be presented to the G8 leaders before they begin their own discussions. Junior 8 Summits in 2005 and 2006 Previous J8 Summits have taken place in Edinburgh in 2005 and St Petersburg in 2006. At the Russian Summit last year the J8 delegates had a 45-minute audience with all of the G8 leaders when they were able to present their views and put forward their solutions to the major challenges facing our world!
