LATIN AMERICAN FORUM ON YOUTH (FLAJ) PDF Print E-mail

The FLAJ is a non-governmental association that represents youth movements and organizations of the entire region. The FLAJ introduces itself as “the continental coordination of juvenile non governmental entities organized in connection with national platforms and international juvenile organizations that work in the continent”.

Goals of the organization:

• To constitute a place that gathers national councils and international juvenile organizations such as political, social and non-governmental ones with a technical character specialized on youths’ subjects.

• To develop and reinforce youth association as an instrument of participation on strategies’ development and improvement of youth life quality.

• To constitute a debate and consult instance with juvenile and non-governmental organizations, organisms and agencies of international cooperation, governmental structures and national organs.

• To motivate and coordinate research and work politics, and common projects between organizations affiliated.

• To reinforce technical capacities of organizations affiliated.

FLAJ “gathers the legacy of coordination’s experiences held in the continent since 1985”, including the Latinamerican Collective Consult of youth’s Organizations, which encouraged the Latinoamerican Center on youth with UNESCO’s support between 1987 and 1994. In that year, this consult was transformed into the actual FLAJ, which “was born with a wide and irrevocable vocation of plurality, trying to convoke all manifestation of the organizations of the entire continent”.

FLAJ, “has the purpose to change into a place of presentation, coordination and cooperation with all Latinamerican Youth’s Organizations, in order to reinforce juvenile capacities to defend their values, such as democracy, freedom, justice, respect for towns’ self-determination, defense of human rights, social equity, defense of life and environment, solidarity and promotion of latin american’s cultural identity”.
