This joint initiative by UNICEF and Morgan Stanley International Foundation aims to strengthen the voice of children and young people and enhance their ability to influence decisions at the G8 level that affect children worldwide. The J8 programme seeks also to foster a global youth movement around G8 issues by enabling young people to convene and discuss key global issues and advocate for urgent solutions. 
WHO: Seventy-four children and young people – eight from each of the G8 countries and ten from developing nations – will gather for the Junior 8 an international youth conference that parallels the G8 Summit in June in Heiligendamm, Germany. WHAT: Young participants will debate four main themes: Economic development in Africa, HIV/AIDS, climate change and new global challenges – among them intellectual property rights and corporate social responsibility WHERE: The J8 Summit will be held in Wismar, Germany. Media events and accreditation details include: • June 1, 14:30, Berlin photo op: German J8 team meets with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, LOCATION TO BE ANNOUNCED. • June 3, 9:00, Wismar: Opening Ceremony of J8 Summit, with the German Prime Minister, Harald Ringstorff. Technology Center, Alter Holzhafen 19, Wismar. Journalists can get accredited at the J8 Media Centre at the Wismar Conference Centre. • June 3, 14:30, Wismar, photo op: J8 participants take a sailing boat tour on the “Dar Mlodziezy.” Port location to be announced. • June 5, 11:00, Berlin, Press Conference: Morgan Stanley International Foundation, UNICEF and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Sir Roger Moore will hold a press conference with selected J8 participants prior to their meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. DETAILS ABOUT LOCATION AND AGENDA TO BE ANNOUNCED. • June 7, 12:15 – 13:00, Heiligendamm: A group of eight Junior 8 Summit participants will present their findings to the heads of state attending the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm. The event will be televised live by host broadcasters ARD and ZDF. • June 7, 13:30, Press Conference, Heiligendamm: The eight Junior 8 participants will hold a press conference in Heiligendamm following their presentation to G8 leaders.
