By promoting a rights agenda by and for young women around the world, the Young Women and Leadership program creates spaces where young women can articulate their priorities, speak out about their concerns, and build leadership.
What is the Young Women and Leadership Program? Ensuring that young women's rights are protected and guaranteed presents a unique challenge that will require a tremendous amount of energy, new actors, new visions, new skills, new analysis and new strategies. Currently there is a lack of young women involved in different spaces (advocacy, analysis and dialogue). Whilst young women who are engaged in various activist spaces (government, human rights community, women's rights community, civil society, society/communities) are marginalized and issues affecting young women ghettoised. Furthermore, the existence of an intergenerational gap in the women's movement does impact on the strategic future of the movement. AWID strives to address these challenges through its Young Women and Leadership Program with the following goals: - Connect, provide support and facilitate ongoing dialogue to young women activists. - To recognise and support the existing efforts by young women activists by disseminating their experiences and analysis; and supporting the production of analysis on critical issues. - Getting more young women involved in the movements and building their capacity to do so. - Facilitating inter-generational dialogues. AWID's Young Women and Leadership Program is guided and shaped by an international advisory committee. Eight young women, committed to women's rights and gender equality, from all over the world dedicate their time, energy, and brilliant minds to helping support the vision and strategic capacity of this program. http://www.awid.org/ywl/ |
