Young people make headline news in SHS Views N° 17

unesco englishIn the recent decision to bring youth activities closer to its Social and Human Sciences programme, UNESCO has moved on to a new stage. Through this approach, the Organization hopes it will not only help young people obtain the right tools for developing their potential, but also contribute to the development of public policies that will give more thought to the needs of the most marginalized groups of young people.

The community youth leaders from Ecoclubes are transforming their communities, with concrete actions in areas such as waste management and sewage treatment, the fight against dengue, proper water usage and urban tree planting, all of which improve the quality of life.

The role of National Youth Councils in the democratic process
anguillaIn 1977, The Anguilla National Youth Council (hereafter will be referred to as ANYC) was formed in order to advance and promote the general welfare and social progress of the people of Anguilla by focusing on the overall development of youth. The constitution of the Anguilla National Youth council states that “ANYC was established as a national body to protect the interests of all youth, youth groups, and affiliated organizations: and to advance and promote the general welfare and social progress of not only the youth, but also the people of Anguilla”.

Pacific/Caribbean Youth Cultural Exchange - 2007
pac carib 1During the inter-regional meeting in Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, July 2005, Small Islands Voice partners put forward a proposal for an inter-regional cultural exchange among young islanders from the Caribbean region and the Pacific. Previous exchanges, such as between the Maldives and Seychelles, have shown that island to island exchange activities have multiple benefits including the sharing of sustainable island lifestyles, education for sustainable development, and culture (drama, art, music, language).
